Rhinoplasty Case #62
Cosmetic Facial Surgeon: Dr. Richard Rival
Procedures Performed: Rhinoplasty
This young woman suffered a nasal fracture. This resulted in the formation of a large hump on the nasal bridge near the top. There was also collapse of the bridge near the bottom where the bridge meets the tip ( the supratip area). A reconstructive rhinoplasty was performed to help restore the nasal contour. The dorsal hump was reduced and at the same time a cartilage graft taken from the nasal septum was used to rebuild her bridge. The tip was set back as well a small amount. While most nasal humps are genetic it does seem that some form as a result of trauma. When a nasal fracture occurs there is a lot of bleeding and swelling. Sometimes this inflammation initiates calcification or new bone formation at the fracture site. This may occur after cosmetic rhinoplasty as well where a small bump forms after surgery. This is perhaps the most common reason for revision in rhinoplasty.
