Eye Brow Lift Recovery Guide

A beautiful mature woman after a forehead lift

A brow lift or forehead lift is a procedure done to give you a more youthful appearance on the forehead and around the eyes. An eye brow lift can erase years of age and worry from your face without requiring extensive surgery. The procedure involves lifting and repositioning the eyebrow.

There are a few kinds of brow lifts. During a consultation, your facial plastic surgeon will evaluate your face and skin quality to see if you are a good candidate. The surgeon will help decide which procedure is best suited to achieve a younger, happier you. Two of the most common types of brow or forehead lifts are:

  • Classic Brow Lift

In this procedure, a surgeon will make an incision near the hairline. They lift the skin on the forehead and remove excess tissue and fat. The eyebrows can be repositioned in this procedure, and any excess skin trimmed away. This procedure results in a smoothing and lifting effect.

  • Endoscopic Brow Lift (Limited-incision Brow Lift)

An Endoscopic brow lift is a barely invasive alternative to the traditional brow lift. Your surgeon will make several small incisions, usually hidden in your hairline. Through those incisions, the surgeon will insert an endoscope (a tiny camera), so that your surgeon can see and correct sagging muscles without an invasive procedure.

The eyes are what many notice first about a face. Sagging, tired-looking eyes can make you feel self-conscious. It can affect how you interact with other people. It can affect your confidence. If you feel your face does not represent your youthful, happiest self, a consultation with a good surgeon will show you how you can refresh and reshape your face with a brow lift.

A good surgeon will correct a drooping or unflattering hooded eyelid. When searching for a plastic surgeon in Toronto make sure you find a well-recommended clinic. Dr. Rival’s two highly reputable plastic surgery clinics serve the General Toronto Area.

What to Expect During Brow Lift Recovery

How To Prepare

When preparing for a brow lift, make sure you gather these items that will ease your recovery. Your surgeon will ensure you are properly prepared for the aftercare process, but here are basic guidelines:

  • A cold compress

You will need ice, washcloths, plastic bags to hold the ice and towels.

  • Clean gauze
  • Clean towels
  • Extra Pillows

Elevate your head throughout the recovery process.

Most brow lifts will see you discharged by the end of the day. Arrange for a friend or loved one to bring you home from the hospital. You should also make sure a friend or loved one will take care of you for the first couple of nights. While recovery time will vary, you’ll want to be off work for 1-2 weeks to allow time for recovery.

The first two recovery nights will be the most challenging. With help, however, they should not be overly difficult. Though you will be prescribed pain medication by your surgeon, most patients do not report much pain.

For the first 24 hours, you will be wearing bandages. For the first 48, keep your head elevated – sleep upright on lots of pillows. Hold off from showering for the first 24 hours. After that, you should use gentle baby shampoo and take care with heat.

Swelling and bruising in the first week are not uncommon. Use your ice packs, or a cold compress, to keep the swelling down. Expect your forehead to itch as it heals but make sure not to touch it.

Depending on how well you are healing, your stitches will be removed in 1-2 weeks. Avoid exercise or strenuous activity for at least six weeks.

The severity and placement of scars will depend on the technique of your brow lift. Endoscopic techniques will hide scars entirely in the hairline. Your surgeon will likely also prescribe you an ointment to minimize scarring.

The results of your eyebrow lift will be visible right away. Within days, as the swelling goes down and scars begin to heal, you will be able to see your new, youthful face.

Complications are rare with a qualified surgeon. However, infection and some temporary loss of sensation are possible.

Eyebrow lift before and after

These before and after shots show the stunning results of an eyebrow lift:

This patient in Toronto felt her forehead and eyes weighed down her face. She thought she looked tired and old. Her doctor suggested an endoscopic brow lift, which limited scarring.

Following the procedure, this patient looks refreshed and more alert. Her upper eyelid is visible again, making her look far more alert.

The eyes appear less tired and the patient’s forehead has been smoothed and lifted. She was delighted to see her skin looking refreshed, rejuvenated, and youthful.
