How to Achieve the Perfect Facelift
Too often, people are scared off from getting potentially life-altering cosmetic procedures by a fear of the dreaded “botched facelift”. However, cosmetic and plastic surgery has come a long way. This piece explains how doctors make facelifts that look indistinguishable, giving a naturally younger appearance.
Common Facelift Issues
Having helped many people prepare for facelifts in Toronto, we hear plenty of worries and concerns. These are both from those who are worried about undergoing plastic surgery, and those who don’t feel that they’ve gotten the full facelift benefits they felt were promised. Nearly all of these problems come down to the same issue – that after the facelift recovery, things just don’t look “right”.
These issues can take a variety of forms. Sometimes, the skin comes out looking too tight and “unnatural”. In other cases, the skin hasn’t been tightened enough, leaving areas looking loose and flabby.
In some cases, this is just an issue with a facelift not being performed correctly. A proper surgical facelift will involve not just adjustments of the skin, but actual changes to the muscles below the skin, developing the new facial structure. However, sometimes facelifts can suffer issues in the post-surgery stage. Issues here can involve discoloration and peeling, or even excessive scarring.
How to Avoid Those Issues
The best way to avoid a bad facelift is to make sure that you get your facelift from a legitimate plastic surgeon. A good plastic surgeon will be able to walk you through what to reasonably expect from your facelift and will give you the proper guidance for your recovery period.
Sometimes, for the best effect, a facelift needs to be mixed with other procedures. These could include adjustments to other parts of the face, such as neck lifts and brow lifts. It could also just involve the use of dermal fillers to give extra substance to certain parts of the face.
After that, it’s up to you to make sure that you follow instructions for the recovery period! Side effects like bleeding or swelling aren’t uncommon during the recovery period, and you shouldn’t worry if you encounter them. Similarly, a little bit of pain and discomfort post-surgery is perfectly natural and can be easily fixed with regular strength painkillers.
The first four days after your facelift procedure will be the most important in your recovery time. You’ll want to focus on relaxing, and try to keep your head elevated – this will help speed the process and give the best results. You may have dressings and suction drains provided by your cosmetic surgeon. It’s vital that you only remove these when instructed by your cosmetic surgeon. Very often this will happen at a post-operative appointment.
After the initial recovery period, you can go about your regular routine. However, it is advisable that you try to avoid any excessively strenuous activities for a month or two. In particular, you should avoid any sports or activities that could result in facial injuries.
It’s also important that if you have any issues such as persistent bleeding after the facelift that you contact your cosmetic surgeon right away. They can give you guidance on nipping the issue in the bud before it becomes more serious.
How to Find a Cosmetic Surgeon You Trust
Many cosmetic surgeons will make wild promises about what a facelift can do for you. The best cosmetic surgeon will be honest and upfront about what to expect. Moreover, they’ll look to give you a facelift that goes for natural results that best fit your face, rather than a jarring adjustment. A good facelift will bring out the best, youngest-looking you, instead of trying to change you into someone you aren’t.
