Is A Brow Lift Right For Me? | Aesthetic Surgery
A brow lift is a type of aesthetic surgery that improves the appearance of the brow and forehead. For this reason, it’s sometimes known as a forehead lift. The procedure raises the tissue of the brow and forehead to rejuvenate your appearance.
This cosmetic procedure can have a significant effect on the overall appearance of your face. Today, we help you determine whether or not a brow lift might be right for you. Although you should always go for a consultation before committing to cosmetic surgery.
How a Brow Lift Changes Your Appearance
One of the first things you should understand is how a brow lift changes your appearance. The lift affects your forehead, the brows, and the area around the eyes. As a result, the brow lift makes your face appear:
- More symmetrical
- More youthful
- Less angry, sad, or tired
Why it Helps
Our skin naturally produces collagen and replaces skin cells. But as we age, these processes slow down and our skin begins to lose its elasticity. As a result, our brows begin to sag making us appear older.
So by raising the brows, you rejuvenate your forehead and eyes. This not only gives you a more youthful look. It also removes permanent angry or tired-looking eyes.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a good solution to multiple aesthetic issues, as well as a good compliment for some other facial surgeries. The most direct issue that makes you a good candidate is sagging brows. The brow lift addresses this issue head-on by raising the brow.
Droopy, tired, or angry eyes can also make you a good candidate. By raising the brow, you also raise the skin around your eyes. So if this issue is caused by sagging skin, your cosmetic surgeon may suggest a forehead lift. Lifting the skin can also resolve ‘worry line’ running across the forehead.
Another common reason to get a brow lift is if you have asymmetrical brows. The best results here generally occur where the asymmetry is the result of sagging skin.
In addition to these issues, another reason people may be a good candidate for a brow lift is if they are having another facial surgery. Both a facelift and a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can be complemented by a brow lift.
When you’re already having cosmetic facial surgery, it’s a good time to add in a second procedure. This minimizes your downtime since there is only one waiting healing period instead of two separate ones. As well, you can often save on costs by bundling them together.
Types of Brow Lifts
There are different types of brow lifts depending on what the issue is, its cause, and the location. Three common types of forehead lifts include:
- Endoscopic
- Coronal
- Temporal
Endoscopic Brow Lift
Where possible, an endoscopic brow lift is a good option. It is minimally invasive, hides the incision in the hair, and has a fast healing time.
This forehead lift involves multiple small incisions above the hairline. Through these, the cosmetic surgeon gently elevates the brow tissue reducing sag.
Coronal Brow Lift
A coronal brow lift is sometimes known as a ‘classic’ or ‘hairline’ brow lift. This method is more intensive but can significantly enhance your appearance.
This procedure uses a larger incision, going along the hairline from ear-to-ear. The plastic surgeon then lifts the skin, readjusting the muscles, tissues, and fat under the skin. Then, they remove the extra skin and close the incision. This takes longer to fully heal but offers a more substantial change.
Some people find that the hairline brow lift has longer-lasting results, with a high rate of satisfaction.
Temporal Brow Lift
A temporal brow lift is usually done if being performed along with a blepharoplasty. Like the endoscopic lift, this involves making incisions that are hidden above the hairline.
For a temporal lift, the incisions are a little longer (about 1 inch) and placed above the temples. They use these incisions to reposition the upper brow. To lift the area around the eyebrows, the surgeon uses the incisions from the blepharoplasty.
